Day 1
Things to do in Dallas include visiting Reunion Tower, exploring Deep Ellum, walking through Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, and dining at Maple Leaf Diner, The Woolworth, and Knife Steakhouse.
Morning Breakfast at Maple Leaf Diner
Maple Leaf Diner is located at 12817 Preston Road in North Dallas. It opens bright and early to get your day started with a full menu of Canadian-style breakfast favorites. You can expect to see poutine, eggs Benedict, pancakes, and the obligatory butter tarts. They do the poutine thing right, piling on fries, cheese curds, and gravy. Even the décor inside is all about being Canadian, think red and white flags and hockey memorabilia everywhere. Canadian chef Nikky Phinyawatana owns it, so they know their stuff. The service is as straightforward as you'd want: table service and printed menus are the preferred option. If you're wondering where it is, it's just 20 minutes outside downtown Dallas, and the car park is in the shopping centre lot.

Visit Reunion Tower
Reunion Tower is in the heart of downtown Dallas, and you can find it at 300 Reunion Boulevard East. This structure stands at a whopping 561 feet tall, which is a notable height. The tower itself is a geodesic dome with an observation deck, and that's really the main draw here. Up on the GeO-Deck, which is what they call the observation level, you get a killer 360-degree view of the Dallas skyline. Visitors can head on up and take in the views from inside or outside, depending on their preference. They also have interactive digital displays throughout the venue that tell you all about the city. Reunion Tower is open every day, and to enter, you'll need a timed-entry ticket.
Afternoon Lunch at The Woolworth
Find The Woolworth at 1520 Elm Street, right in downtown Dallas. You'll spot it in a historic building from the early 20th century, and when you get inside, you can see the character, with exposed brick walls and large windows. They do the classics: burgers, sandwiches, and salads, in good old-fashioned American style. They've also got a nice big bar area, and if you're lucky, you can sit and watch the world go by from the top floor with a view over Dealey Plaza. It's in the heart of downtown, so it's within walking distance of all the main sights. And, of course, they provide full drink service during lunch hours.

Explore Deep Ellum
Deep Ellum is just to the east of downtown Dallas, and it's the real hub of the city's street art and live music scene. It has more than 20 bars, clubs, and live music venues to explore. You can see amazing murals here, some done by local artists and some that have come from further afield. And it's also home to loads of different music venues, so you can catch a show in a proper concert hall, or browse around and take it all in. There are many places to grab a bite or a coffee, and many small shops to browse. Deep Ellum's got a real reputation for its jazz and blues, although all sorts of different music get played here.
Evening Visit Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden
The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is perched on the shore of White Rock Lake, a scenic spot. And this is no small operation: the garden covers about 66 acres of seriously beautiful landscaped grounds. There are all sorts of themed gardens to check out, like the Rose Garden and the Woman’s Garden, and pretty much every time of year, you'll find some new flowers on display. They also host events and exhibitions throughout the year, so check the schedule to see what's happening when you plan to visit. Walking trails will get you from one end of the garden to the other, and you can take in some great views of the lake while you're at it. For all your shopping and eating needs, there's a visitor centre and gift shop on site.
Dinner at Knife Steakhouse
Knife Steakhouse calls 5300 East Mockingbird Lane home, and they really make all the magic happen here. It is run by the talented chef John Tesar. Knife is a real meat-lover's paradise; the menu is all about dry-aged steaks. You see, they actually age their beef on the premises, for just the right amount of time to get those cuts just right. So, what kind of cuts can you expect to find on the menu? Well, they've got the classic ribeye, filet mignon, and of course, the strip steak. The interior is stylish, with a modern dining room where you can enjoy a meal, with proper table seating, just as you'd want. They only do dinner in the evenings, but hey, that's not a bad thing.
